SSS 2009 Drum Stick Regatta
Organized by the authority of the Sarasota Sailing Squadron
Saturday November 21st 2009
SSS Winter Series Event plus SSSPHRF Event
1. Rules
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the “racing rules” as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009. Additional Local SSS scoring/rating rules as authorized by the SSS will be in effect.
2. Eligibility and Entry
2.1 Classes will be Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, Non-Spin Cruiser, Multi-hull and other one design classes with three or more entries. Participants without current WFPHRF endorsements will be assigned a rating for the Regatta. Fewer than three entries in a class may result in combining classes.
2.2 Eligible boats may enter by registering at the SSS no later than two hours prior to the start of the first race.
3. Fees
3.1 Required Fees are as follows: All classes $10.00. (Note: $1.00 of this fee is contributed to the Sailing Corinthian Fund)
4. Schedule
4.1 Registration will be open beginning at 8:30am on the day of the race.
4.2 Dates of Racing- The Race Committee has scheduled two races to be held in Sarasota Bay on Saturday November 21st, 2009 One race constitutes a Regatta. Alternate Date: Scheduled for Sunday, November 22nd 2009
4.3 The scheduled time of the first warning of the first race will not be before 1130. Class starts for a second next race may begin prior to all classes finishing.
5. Sailing Instructions & Courses
5.1 The Sailing Instructions & Courses will be available at the Registration Desk
6. Scoring
6.1 The Low-Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply, except no race will be excluded.
6.2 Buoy rating will be used for the windward courses, and random leg rating used for all others. Buoy rating and random leg rating will apply according to the course(s) sailed by each class.
7. Berthing
7.1 Skippers will be allowed to bring their vessels into the SSS from Thursday thru Monday on the weekend of the regatta. This will be on a first come, first serve basis, If you require a boat hoist or temporary dockage, please make prior arrangements with management at the SSS.
8. Radio Communication
Prior to the starting sequence, boats may monitor VHF channel #8. A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to cellular phones.
9. Prizes
9.1 Prizes will be awarded as follows: Classes will be divided into divisions based on the number of entries. The number of awards distributed will be determined by the number of entries in each class or division.
10. Disclaimer of Liability
10.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4. Decision to Race. Neither the organizing authority nor the host organization nor the sponsors will accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
